This week called for celebration at the CareerSource Gulf Coast Job Center. On Tuesday, March 10, CareerSource Gulf Coast held two ribbon cuttings and the Bay Chamber After Hours event in honor of its grand reopening.
“Our community has been an incredible support system as we have worked to get our facility back operational,” said Kim Bodine, Executive Director of CareerSource Gulf Coast. “It was important to us that we have these events to celebrate this triumph with them.”
Almost 18 months ago, Hurricane Michael severely damaged the 18,000 square feet facility. The roof was breached, and the entire building suffered consequential damage (water, mold, etc.). The hurricane left the building to be gutted and in need of extensive repairs. With the help of Bay District Schools Superintendent Bill Husfelt, CareerSource Gulf Coast was able to continue to provide much needed employment services to the community at a temporary location at CC Washington Academy during the renovations of the existing facility.
After eight months in the temporary location, CareerSource Gulf Coast was able to reopen. The Job Center staff is now “home” in a newly remodeled building, a feeling that brings the CareerSource Gulf Coast team indescribable joy.
“Our staff has been incredibly resilient throughout this process,” said Maria Goodwin, Director of Workforce Services. “The services we offer are crucial to our community and we are thrilled to have our Job Center fully functioning again to serve both job seekers and employers in the region. It was a team effort to get it repaired and open. Now, we are back, and proud to have a new-and-improved space to serve our community.”
