CareerSource Gulf Coast is offering scholarships to eligible students enrolled Haney Technical Center’s Industrial Pipefitter Program. The scholarships will cover the costs of books, tuition, and supplies for the program.
“We are excited to be working with Haney Technical Center, providing scholarships and career guidance to students in the Industrial Pipefitter Program,” said Kim Bodine, Executive Director of CareerSource Gulf Coast. “This is an amazing opportunity for men and women in our community to learn an in-demand skill that will also provide a sizeable income. We are glad to support this effort.”
The Industrial Pipefitting program is a new training program for Haney Technical Center that was developed to meet the growing demand for this skill set in the job market. It is a six (6) month program that will teach students skills in organizing, assembling, creating and maintaining mechanical piping systems. These skills can be used for to obtain high paying jobs in a variety of industries including manufacturing, shipbuilding, utility companies, gas plants, hospitals, chemical plants, oil refineries, HVAC companies and construction firms. In 2018, Florida Labor Market statistics estimated the average wage for Pipefitters in the Panama City MSA at $19.43 per hour. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity also reported that skilled workers in this field comprise one of the largest and highest paid construction occupations.

Registration for the program is taking place at Haney Technical Center Monday, October 7 through Friday, October 11, 2019 and classes begin on Monday, October 15, 2019. Students interested in the programs are encouraged to meet with a CareerSource Gulf Coast representative before registration to determine eligibility for financial assistance.
